Guado al Melo

Guado al Melo lies in the heart of the appellation Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. The winery is run by Michele Scienza and his family, vintners for generations. Michele’s father, Attilio, teaches viticulture at the University of Milan and has brought his large library to Guado al Melo, where it has been placed at the centre of an interesting tour among history and culture, through the vineyards and the underground winery. The vineyards cover about 27 hectares (75 acres). The terroir is well-suited to produce complex and elegant wines, due to the alluvial soil rich of stones and the Mediterranean climate, refreshed by an important temperature range during summertime. The grape growing is run with special attention to healthiness and environment, following the guidelines of sustainable agriculture. Winemaking is done in a traditional way, without additives or corrections, which might alter the natural features of the grapes.
