Donna Olimpia 1898 was founded based on the intuition of Guido Folonari, heir of one of the historical wine families of Italy.The company is known as “Donna Olimpia 1898” (Olimpia Alliata, The Lady of Biserno and the bride of Gherardo dellaGherardesca who gave her name to the estate in 1898, on the occasion of her 25th wedding anniversary) has a territory of about 60 hectares, all of them are situated in the Doc Bolgheri area. The morphology of the land is flat. 40 hectares of land are cultivated as vineyards; the remaining hectares are arable land. The 2007 wines are based on the viticulture and oenology of Bolghieri.
Obizzo
Obizzo is made from the grapes of Bolgheri vineyards (LI), situated on the strip of coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vineyards are settled on a sandy and limy soil, that has been created in a contintental, eolic, colluvial environment.
Production per hectare: an average of 80 quintals of grapes
Productivness of the grapes in wine: about 70%, for a yield of wine of 60 hl per hectare.
Harvest: takes place in September, when the grapes are fully matured. The selected grapes, are taken to the cellar to be vinified.
