Sapereta di Sapere Italo Andrea
The first evidence of the Sapere family can be found in the “Registro delle Anime” “Parish Records” held in the Parish of Capoliveri. In 1694 a certain “Agostino Sapere, a farmer who was born in Salerno” disembarked with his family on the Island. All the descendants of the family turned out to be farmers, except Lorenzo Sapere (1728) who was a sailor. In 1927 the grand father of the current owners, Italo Sapere, bought the present company. His son Teolo Ario increased and extended the production that his father had started, until the 1980s, he orientated the company towards the development of the wines produced on Elba and, more particularly, those produced in the Aleatico area. The company produced wines from Elba according to the protocol of organic farming, under the surveillance of ICEA (“Institute for Ethical Environmental Control “ – Istituto per il Controllo Etico Ambientale).
