Azienda agricola Poggio agli Scalzi

Poggio agli Scalzi, owned by the Moscardini family, started its activity in 2002. It is a young company which is still growing. The head office and lands of the company are located in Tuscany, in the municipality of Castellina Marittima, Val di Cecina, in the hills of the Maremma of Pisa. The renovation project of the plants, that started in 2002, will lead in the coming years to about 10 hectares of vineyards, with a density of 7,500 plants per hectare. The current 7 hectares produce about 50,000 bottles, divided in 4 labels: Pierofosco (Montescudaio Sangiovese DOC con Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Merlot), Poggio agli scalzi (Montescudaio Merlot DOC with monovarietal Merlot), Le Matassine (Red Montescudaio DOC, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Syraz) and Silente (Toscana IGT, with Vionier and Vermentino grapes). The clay conformation of the soil, the breeze from the sea, guarantees undamaged grapes even duting very hot summers.
